Kookaburra sits on the old clothes li-ine
Merry merry king of the yard is he-ee
Laugh! kookaburra, laugh!
Kookaburra, gay your life must be...
(Play the song and listen to its laugh here)
I came out in to the backyard, and saw the kooka sitting on the clothes line...
so I came a bit closer...and closer...while he checked me out...
I must have passed scrutiny...because he sat perfectly still as I came yet closer...
until I was less than a metre away...
Cookie really DOES travel! So do the gum blossoms :)
ReplyDeleteyou were patient and were rewarded. Wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoying catching up with the latest after my return from NZ yesterday. You have a lovely series of holiday scenes here.
ReplyDeleteHad a great trip and no rain, just as lucky as you apparently.
Love this kooka shot, and the whole step by step approach series.
Kookaburras are such awesome birds. No-one had warned me about them, so I woke up after my first night in Sydney asking whether anyone else had heard the monkeys at 4am... Well, after about 4 nights I found I could finally sleep through the noise, and I really grew to love their manic laughter. Do you ever encourage one to laugh, by starting the laughing yourself? It really works if you can mimic them well enough... :-D
ReplyDeleteVery nice pictures with close up on the Kookaburras. The sound of this bird is quite funny and also noisy! :-) Do they "sing" during the night?
