What to post for a first birthday? Something topical? Or controversial? A crowd-pleasing and recognisable shot of one of Sydney's obvious assets? A picture of "my favourite place" ? (How to choose THAT?)
In the end I chose something that is part of my (almost) daily life - the walk to the station from home to get to work. This may not be the best shot I've ever taken, but it's small moments when you see something pretty, like a plumbago bush with blooms and raindrops after an overnight shower, on a sunny autumn morning that give joy to life and a glad-to-be-alive feeling in a world which sometimes seems to have gone totally mad. Along with looking at the snippets of life from around the globe in the Daily Photo family
Thanks to Ming in New York, via Alice in Arradon's blog for the instructions on how to make pics bigger. What do you think about the new look for a new year?
Sensational! Bigger better photos to look forward to for another year. HAPPY BIRTHDAY fellow Aussie!
ReplyDeleteHappy blog birthday Sally. I like the new size photo.
ReplyDeleteCheers!!!
Happy 1st anniversary Sally. Love the new size...more to look at.
ReplyDeletecongraulations on the big anniversary Sally.
ReplyDeleteLike the new look, not so taken with plumbago. Have one growing along the fence from next door and always getting those beautiful little flower stuck on me. They have a very sticky stem and don't let go too easily.
The new style is great, flowers always they are, so, what else? Ahhh A very Happy Birthday to Sydney DP by aussie Sally :-)
ReplyDeleteYour new size photo doesn't show up in my feed preview now - but that just means I have to visit your site to remind me of Oz :-) I can still click on your photos and go really big though.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Happy birthday!!! A year is quite the milestone. Congrats.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, we posted very similar photos today (wet flowers). Great minds obviously think alike. ;)
Whoa!! Looking good, Sally! Happy anniversary to you! Looking forward to more largers photos of Sidney.
ReplyDeleteJoyeux anniversaire à ton blog, Sally! A daily pleasure for me to come here and see your new photo, a little pleasure like these ones you write about today...I wish you a nice and pleasant day. (your new format is very nice;-)!)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Sydney Daily Photo!
ReplyDeleteyes, the bigger the better!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Sydney DP!
Happy birthday/anniversary SDP...a nice new look along with a very nice shot...looking forward to more of your beautiful shots of the beautiful city in the future...keep going...
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Sally! Great picture as usual! Greetings from Polska!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY! I'll go get you a cappucino now!
ReplyDeletecongratulations on the first year of hopefully many Sally
ReplyDeletethe new look is great
Happy birthday, nice new look.
ReplyDeleteThanks all. Well, I will definitely stick with the new look, even if it fills a laptop screen (nearly).
ReplyDeleteI've loved making so many new friends - always expanding - and am so pleased to be part of the DP "family".
Eric talked me inot it (and I guess many others too!) so it's all his "fault" ! I think he deserves a slice of every anniversay cake. :-)
PS - john , I don't know how to leave a comment on your site, but I LOVE the painted guide dog. never knew about that project; it's great!
ReplyDeleteSally, It's been a pleasure this year checking your blog each day---well, almost every day! I feel as though I know you and send you congratulations. I, too, need to thank Ming for allowing me to expand my photos, too. What a guy, right?! Yesterday, blogspot was a bit wild; all I got from your photo was a red x and couldn't upload mine with anything but a red x, also. But all is well now and I can enjoy your special moment flowers.
ReplyDeletebon anniversaire...
ReplyDeleteI love the flowers with the raindrops. Beautiful.
ReplyDeletebravo, je te souhaite un bon anniversaire. Tres belle photo pour fêter ce jour
ReplyDeletecheer, I wish you a happy birthday. Very beautiful photograph to celebrate this day
I like your bigger look. It seems the way to show photos. Bigger is better.
ReplyDeleteI really like your photograph.
Today I show my wife, of 52 years, and President Bush's jet that is carrying his automobiles.
Abraham Lincoln
There is beauty in the simple things, like your flowers after the rain...
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Sally! That's quite a milestone. Loking forward to another year...
Sally,
ReplyDeleteHappy, Happy first anniversary. You can be very proud to have achieved this milestone. Look at all the wonderful people that have flooded in to your life and you into theirs.
Good luck for the next 12m, and remember, Size does Matter?
Sally, congrats on 100 up!! Well done....I'm panting hard on 82!
ReplyDeleteWe've had a humanitarian open door policy for more than 10 yrs...and things are now seriously creaking. It's tough....these poor guys need a refuge, but the internal pressures are really serious. I know (and agree with) what you mean about "plundering", but it's not that simple. Many go back with better experience. Those who stay do well in their chosen new home. Did Oz "plunder" you from somewhere, or did you go by choice for good reasons? These are hard questions to argue through.
Kindest to you, and thanks a million for visiting and making good comments. Did you ever read my Posts # 13 and # 14? :-)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
ReplyDelete¡¡Felicidades!!
Yes, it's really better with large photos!
One year of photos, that's so admirable! keep on' doing so well!
Btw, the photo is gorgeous, really sweet :)
Love the large format photo. I can't accept the credit for the information on how to enlarge the photo.
ReplyDeleteEdwin of Kuala Lumpur Daily Photo taught me how to do it.
Oh! And Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all congratulations on your first birthday. Great that you go big too :) Sidney full screen must be twice as spectacular.
ReplyDeleteGreat to find another fan of Jane Austen (have you seen her lap desk at the Library of London?) and "A Fine Balance". At the risk of sounding too dramatic, this book changed my life...
ReplyDeleteI've added a link to my post today showing Bush falling off a Segway ;-) Enjoy!
Happy birthday Sally! I so enjoy visiting your blog and reliving my wonderful month in Sydney. It also helps to make me feel a little closer to my brother and his family who live there permanently now. I miss them terribly, but being able to see things from their environment each day makes the distance a little smaller somehow. Thank-you. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy first birthday and congratulations on a lovely blog!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by mine!
I saw on your profile that you love any film set in Istanbul-- did you see the incredibly lovely Steam? The sound track is even better than the film with its smoky percussiveness and swirling arabesques - you'd love it.
Happy Birthday Sally! Keep going. I love seeing your photos.
ReplyDeleteSally, that's interesting for me as a true appreciator of Australia and enjoyer of history.
ReplyDeleteYour comments on skills are relevant. I think UK is awful on this skill thing. We wring our hands but why oh why don't we get a German style craft training thing working? We used to have it, but it seems to have been destroyed.
Very much like your idea about releasing the "campers" and training them!!!!! That sounds good. Trouble is....it would attract 20 million more!!!! Would that be bad?
Ref that camera.....well almost. The things that happen round here ;-0
White flowers and other chevalet for a daily draw with invisible color
ReplyDeleteHIP HIP HOORAH... Congraaaaats...
ReplyDeletecongrats.
ReplyDeletei'd pick a subject you did a year ago but this is prob nicer....and this way no repeats.
Sally, I tip a glass of Yellow Tail to you. Need to tell you that I returned to my friend liquor store owner to buy more Yellow Tail in addition to Pinot Grigio--several other kinds. The owner told me that Yellow Tail sells more wine that any other company in the WORLD! Can you believe it??!!
ReplyDeleteThankyou all once more; I have responded to your comments on your own blogs!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! 1 year...wonder if I can make it! Still a newbie, but am enjoying the challenge of a photo a day, really makes you appreciate what is around you more! Perfect choice for your anniversary photo methinks! And how do you get your photos bigger? I've been wanting to know too.. bigger is certainly better! Looks gorgeous! Esther ☆
ReplyDeleteHave a good one birthday girl!
ReplyDeleteIt is great to reach that tender age, I can appreciate the commitment and dedication it takes! So , for many more to come!
Beautiful flower by the way
Cheers!
Happy Belated Blog Birthday!! You chose well..beautiful photo! Love those drops!
