Ring of rocks pool, Little Bay

This beach was a private beach for the people who used to work at the old "Coast Hospital" - Prince Henry's - above. This pool was constructed to provide nurses with a safe place to bathe. Read more here.

Yachts off Little Bay

On 26 January, Australia Day, there was a yacht race between Sydney harbour and Botany Bay and return.  They made an attractive sight off Little Bay where I was swimming.

Back from the photo shoot

I spotted this group on the rocks at the far side of Little Bay. They seemed to be engaged in a photo shoot. There were only 4 people, and it didn't seem to be a commercial shoot (not enough equipment), and didn't really appear to be a wedding either.

The whole thing had me rather intrigued, and I was even more curious when they emerged onto the headland from where I had been watching. I said "Hello" and hoped to ask them what was happening, but they looked blankly at me and kept going. I don't know whether they spoke English. The whole scene was very bizarre!

I have seen a wedding party at Little Bay beach before (click here), so maybe they thought it was a good idea at the time. They certainly didn't seem to be thinking so by the time I encountered them! The groom (if he were) looked rather bedraggled, they both seemed fed up, and after attending to whatever it was at the hem of her dress, he plodded on ahead of her.

Sydney Daily Photo's 4th birthday

April 19th is SDP's 4th birthday. Here's a selection of unpublished pics featuring my favourite activity and environment.

The posters are a selection from an exhibition I saw some time ago at the National Maritime Museum in Sydney on the history of the swimsuit. The other two are me this summer at one of my favourite Sydney places: the beach at Little Bay.

Seagulls

It's not often you see seagulls actually floating around on water - more likely to be swooping down and snatching your potato chips.

Sandstone, Little Bay

A wonderful, sheltering overhang. Bottom picture - looking back towards the beach.

Back to the beach

Sunscreen, hat, sarong, cover-up, and a bag keeping water and fruit cool....just the essentials!

Reflections on change

January 1st - a time to reflect on changes which have taken place during the past year, and things you might like to change in the coming year.

As individuals, there are things we can change, and others we can't. We can make deliberate and conscious choices. I chose to eat less and lose weight and feel healthier.

As humanity, there's a whole lot we need to change. Seems there was a collective failure of will at Copenhagen. Let's see if we can do better in 2010. Individual effort may make individuals feel good about themselves, but it's not going to be enough to save the boat we're all in together!

Rock pool, Little Bay

On the northern end of Little Bay beach, there's a gorgeous shallow rock pool to have a loll around in.

The ring of rocks pool - underwater

This is from half under the water in the pool seen yesterday. I'm experimenting with the D10 waterproof camera to see what different effects I can get. Which do you prefer? In the shot below you can see the water bubbles as a fresh wave spills over the rocks into the pool.
