Wolli Creek

Not all of city life is hustle and bustle. This is Wolli Creek, near my home. It is about 6 kms from the centre of the city. It runs through one of the last stands of bushland so close to the city. Community activists over the years have had to fight to preserve the area, and the battles continue. It's been pretty polluted, but in recent years has been recovering.
Wolli Creek Preservation Society. The website allows you to take a virtual walk through the area (see on right hand side of their site)

  1. Beautiful creek! Quite a different view than what I've been taking pictures of for the last few hours! (the anti-immigration rally)
Thanks for your comment on my site. I agree, I would like to see those who protest against illegal immigrants go and do the same work that the immigrants do - it won't happen.

  5. Yes, Sally, i agree with both your points. In my mind the whole concept of individual responsibility needs to be accepted by EVERYBODY.. acknowledging that everything that we do DOES affect others. Yes, maybe naive, but ALL of us needs to do something personally if we are going to have a hope.I guess I'm not all that happy about Qld piping water from northern NSW...we are Ok for water in the Tweed NOW, but if the developers are allowed to keep building Surfers/Noosa lookalike resorts, we will also be in big trouble. I think a lot of it is to do with changing attitudes, and I don't think enough is being done towards that.
Ooops, sorry, that was a rant!
So, my Wooli Creek stories will have to stay a secret a bit longer.

  12. Looks beautiful. I'm always amazed to find the significant presence of nature near dense urban areas....it always seems like photo shop to see the wetlands right across the river from NYC.
