Archaeology

I wonder if one day these walls will be exposed in an archaeological dig?
Graffiti tags still visible under construction....now the building, a budget hotel,  is complete.

Archaeology of the future

This new building at St Peters abutts walls on either side which are adorned with graffiti, or art. I spotted it as I drove past, and it led me to wonder whether some time in the future when the new building reaches the end of its life, people will take scrapings and wonder at the decorative daubings of the early 21st century.....

St Peters Church

This is the church at which the sign I showed yesterday is located. It is a beautiful patch of green, complete with surrounding cemetery, in a really hectic part of Sydney. The entrance is off the Princes Highway, in an area of fast food joints, a cheap motel, container terminals and light industry.

The church was built in 1838 in Gothic revival style.

Grilled Cheesus

I adore the TV show "Glee", and there is an episode called Grilled Cheesus in which Jesus appears in a half eaten grilled cheese sandwich. This reminded me of that..... It's in the churchyard of a church at St Peters.

Enviro Trade Centre

I showed the Enviro Trade Centre in August 2006. The photo above is from then. Since then it's had a paint job, as the photo at left shows.

Sydney Park AIDS Memorial Grove

Within Sydney Park are several groves of trees which have been planted as a living memorial to those who have died of HIV/AIDS.

From the SPAIDS website:

"Community groups were encouraged to plant Australian native species of trees, and SPAIDS was supported by Council in 1994 at its first planting on 15 May 1994.

"Individuals who were carers of people with HIV/AIDS felt the need for a living memorial to those who had died from the disease, so Council was approached to set aside a section of this new park project for this purpose. Council agreed. At the time the Council was organizing three plantings a year in order to accelerate growth of trees.

"SPAIDS persisted with Council and plantings, and by 2008, SPAIDS had had 33 plantings and planted over 8000 trees and commemorated over 1200 people."

Sydney Park

Sydney Park, in the inner southern suburb of St Peters is a new-ish park. It is built on a former brick pit and waster disposal site. It's not yet 20 years old, and looking good.

I've shown various pictures of the park before , especialy the northern end with the brick chimneys, and the lookouts. In the southern end, there's this impressive wetland area.

I'm back on deck after one of those revolting bugs that confines you to the bathroom and bedroom for 24 hours!

Anyway, here's another pic I took last week at Sydney Park, St Peters at dusk as I came up to the top of the hill. Tomorrow, the view from the top.

Sydney Park wetlands 2

Realised I had some better pics of the wetlands than the one I published on Saturday, so before we leave the park, here they are. We used to take our son here to feed ducks when he was little. It has been made much nicer since then.

Brickpit chimneys, Sydney Park

Over the last two days I've showed a couple of different aspects of Sydney Park at St Peters, in the inner southern suburbs of Sydney.
This park is less than 20 years old. The site was used for clay extraction for making bricks, and then rubbish disposal. These are the brick pit chimneys (which are just visible on the skyline in yesterday's picture.)
