Autumn ----> winter colour
In much of the world, the official change of season is at the equinoxes and solstices. In Australia, seasons change "officially" by calendar date: Spring - 1 September; Summer - 1 December; Autumn - 1 March; Winter - 1 June. Of course, plants don't read calendars, and late autumn colour is still very present even when the official designation is winter. These were taken last weekend. Indigenous seasons are another thing again, and vary from place to place.

It hard to predict the season lately here in Bali...Rain fall in dry season and vice-versa.
ReplyDeleteIt seems global warming has change the season extremely
The idea of indigenous trees never changing colours and never losing their leaves is an appealing one. But perhaps we are too immersed in European literature-art-films-travel to not love a "real" autumn. After all, the colours are soft and very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, Australians don't continue with all the European metaphors that the changing colours evoke - slowing down of the harvests, less food available, less social life, the need to store summer clothes away.
Lovely. I need a bit of coolth... hot here. Not long now and you'll be here. Great!
ReplyDeleteNot late autumn where I am only 1 1/2hrs from Sydney centre. Well & truly winter in the Blue Mountains.
