Gladstone and Wentworth

This pair of Victorian houses is one of my favourites in my local area. Built in 1886, they are rendered brick, with double storey verandahs and lavishly decorated cast iron lacework. I think the one on the left is still a single residence; the one on the right has definitely been subdivided into flats. This is a great example of how Victorian domestic architecture was translated into the Australian context.

There's some more views here.

  2. Every once in awhile someone will post a photo with lots of iron work, and, sadly it reminds me of New Orleans. Thanks for posting; Victorian homes are quite lovely and you captured its spirit!

  6. Wow, now that's a house to be proud of, even when you've been taught not to be "house proud".
