City Bowling Club

In December 2008, I posted the photo below. It was taken from the Australian Museum across the road from Cook + Philip Park. I have since been thinking about the site and how much I used to enjoy walking past it when it was a lawn bowling club. It is still used for recreatin, being re-developed as an underground fitness and aquatic centre. It is in a state of disrepair on top at the moment (since my Dec photo). The photos above are from the State Library photo collection.

  3. Nice collage Sally. Well done too.

Great photo of St. Mary's. It's a beautiful Cathedral. Loved the crypt, lots of interesting artefacts down there. Do the they still charge people if they want to take photos?

  4. I have fond memories of the bowling greens too. The new development looks great when the fountains are operating but a bit cold at other times.

  5. Such a shame. I liked the old bowling green. Not a fan of the new development.

  7. Tradeoffs happen, and I'm not sure if I like this tradeoff. That beautiful field for lawn bowling was lovely.

  8. Hi Sally! I found your blog while I was trying to google some old sites in Sydney and Brisbane. I was wondering if you could tell me where this kind of City Bowl Club is? Is it even in Sydney? I put the picture temporarily on my blog http://ellukylmanen.tumblr.com/post/86984031263 I would really appreciate it, but thank you anyway!

  11. I think it may be, Elina. It says City Bowling Club. There are tram tracks along the road in front. I don't know if there were trams along that road, but I will try to find out.
