Redfern Park play

Part of the brief for the redevelopment of Redfern Park was the creation of interactive playground space for the under-7s.

This beautiful sculptural-looking piece is part of it (you can tell by the soft-fall groundcover).

I'm not too sure how much it appeals to children; I have a feeling it looks like it's been transplanted from Sculpture By The Sea and caters more for adult tastes. Unfortunately there weren't any Redfern kids around to ask when I was there.

What do you think?

  1. A strange looking thing. Are you meant to sit in it, or climb over it?

I bet you would see some intersting shadows when the sun is in the right spot.

  2. I like it. It's a lot better than the generic play equipment that you usually see around the suburbs. I have wondered what happens to artworks that are displayed at Sculptures by the Sea. It would be good if they are utilised in public space like this. Just discovered recently that a sculpture of a Centaur (half man, half horse) from SBTS, has since found an appropriate home at the Sydney Showgrounds at Homebush Bay.

  4. Cool photo - never saw any play area equipment like that before. It's made of metal? Cool! Regards from EAGAN daily photo

  5. Am I really the only person who thinks this looks like a giant ironically child-strangling boob? Or is that what you meant by adult tastes?

From a kid perspective though, it looks like it would be fun to play on.
