Water - Daily Photo Theme Day

Water is a precious commodity in a city, state and country where drought is frequent. I live in a city with many waterways, but until the drought broke recently, rain was a rarity over the past few years. Much of Australia is still in drought. Sydney-siders have become much better at using water, and we use far less now (per capita and in total) than we did 20 years ago, even with a much larger population.

I saw this sign on a local road sign pole.

Have a look at what other Daily Photo blogs around the world have to show us about water by clicking this link.

  1. Do hope you all get more rain! If not, you might have to follow Singapore in recycling sewage water for drinking :-)

    Happy Theme Day Sally!

  5. Good post, Sally!
That was my original choice for today's theme, because SW Florida is under extreme drought conditions. But the only photo I could think of to illustrate the point was the limited watering on the golf course! And who would really care? Not I ;-)

  10. In French, there is a sentence which says "water is life", "l'eau, la vie"...Maybe even more true in Australia...

  13. Great photo and message! I am so pleased that we bloggers have selected this theme for today because of its importance so perhaps we're advancing awareness in a slightly different way. I never really conserved water 'til we started going to Mexico, and I then developed a new and more serious awareness re. this important resource. Thanks for your post. PS. Yes, I did get your email, appreciated it and will follow up after I get a bit more settled here at home now. Miss Mexico terribly!!

  15. Ah, I know the drill well. For decades in California we lived under mandatory water conservation rules. Here in Seattle, there is not the strict necessity, but people on the whole try to conserve all resources here, more so than anywhere I've lived before. My daughter decided she wanted to do her laundry quckly and so put the entire contents of her clothes hamper into the washer. It broke under the strain and is too old to warrent repair, so we are taking the opportunity to shop for a more energy efficient washer. Nice reminder, Sally!
