Tree poisoning, Mosman Bay (Walk Part 3)

This huge sign has been erected where a tree has been destroyed. The sign directly faces a house. I wonder if the Council particularly wants the residents of that house to read the sign? We strongly suspect so. Destruction of trees by people complaining they 'spoil their view' have become more numerous . The aim of the signs is to block, or at least mar the view thus 'created'.

  1. Sally, Willful destruction of nature is truly a crime. Hope the persons responsible are discovered and fined. Probably fat chance unless someone has both evidence and a conscience.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

  2. No doubt the homeowners are involved...We experience the same problem with "thining" of the palm trees blocking the view of the golf course.
But Kate is right - unless you catch someone red handed, this wilful destruction will go on...

  3. Two sad things: The tree and the sign.

I'm not condoning killing the tree at all, but I bet the people opposite are paying Council rates with valuations based on the views they don't have! If council's showed a little common sense, and allowed a little judicious pruning, there'd be no motive.

Sorry to stir the pot Sally, it's a nice bit of reporting!

  6. Sad people are so selfish. Good that the sign is up.

  7. It is only pointing at one house! These are huge mansions, and it's only a public walkway along here, not the street frontage!

  10. Very interesting. It's a thing you'll never see in France...The sign, I mean, not the selfish people ;-)

  11. Hello Sally!
It`s a long time, when I have been visiting here. I want to thank you for your visits my DPblog.
This sign certainly spoil their view now, but if they are responsible about this tree, every "achievement"
    has consequence.
Your photos with blue sky and sea and wideness tell me about totally different world than mine.
It`s nice to be back :)

    Have a good weekend, Sally!

  12. This is an astonishing sign--a public declaration of the ignorance of some people who live in your city. I can't even imagine what some of their other vandalism consists of.

I managed to post about my hospitalization adventures. Hope you get to read it.

  14. We have the same problem too, Sally. Wilful damage and worse, death, to a venerated tree. Too awful. Glad to see this council have erected such a sign. Good for them.

  15. Yep, same problem here too Sally, and our council does the same thing. In a 'flash' beachside estate just up the road, the council actually erected a structure about 20m long, using super-thick shade cloth, where the coastal vegetation had been poisoned.

By the way, I directed Boo from ATCoZ to your swimming blog....she LOVED it!!

  16. Amazing way of creating awareness. The sign should be put on each such spot where there is destruction of trees especially for a view, so that their efforts are in vain.
    Great photo.

  17. I'm not sure it's enough though, anu, because I doubt the sign will be there as long as the tree would have been (30 years?) so in the long run, from the home-owner's point of view, it might still be a "good" thing to do.

I agree with bitingmidge that judicious pruning by council could save the trees and maybe they should really be going down that path.

  18. Although I think another equally annoying colour should be used for the white parts of the sign... maybe a day-glo pink or yellow to really hurt their eyes.

Just the same I think I would have rather had the tree included in my view!

  19. Same issues pop up here. I find it amazing and arrogant that people don't understand that they don't "own" the view. I really like your city council's creative response.

  20. they should have a bigger sign! to block more of the view.

ah.. i am thinking like a selfish person now. LOL
