International Worker Memorial Day
People place flowers and photos on the memorial named Memory Lines at a ceremony in Sydney today to mark International Worker Memorial Day . It is "...dedicated to those Australian workers who never returned home from work and to all those whose lives have been tragically cut short in the pursuit of earning a living. The life cycle, the void of loss and lines of memory are symbols represented in this sculpture. " - The sculpture is by Ingrid Skirka.

That's a stunning piece of sculpture Sally for a very important cause.
ReplyDeleteMy life wasn't cut short but my working life was, due to a work injury.
This must be a unique day in the world. I applaud Australia for this special day for workers who have tragically lost their lives through work.
ReplyDeleteHave you noticed we never hear about this kind of event from other counrties, unless people like you make us aware.
I have definately learnt something todady.

That is a lovely memorial sculpture. The families of those lost, I'm sure, were quite appreciative of the ceremony.
ReplyDeleteWhere in Sydney is this? I have never heard of this day... my dad died in a Coal Mine cavein in 1978... put some flowers or something on there for him one day for me (since I now live in Florida) and think of John (my dad)... thanks and take care
