This is the first time I have noticed these receptacles along the beaches of Botany Bay. Great idea. Discarded fishing line has a nasty habit of endangering sea life. Read more about the TAngler Bins here. Hope the guys below do the right thing!

That's very civic-conscious. Was the receptacle put in place by local authorities or did some member of the public took the initiative? Kinda weird though, the small opening of the receptacle, it looks like a pipe.

photolicious: they arev put there by the local Council.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful humane community effort. Hope it catches on in other countries as well. South Africa recently had a photo of several people helping to untangle a line from an animal.
ReplyDeleteThat is an excellent idea. As Kate mentioned, we posted just yesterday (http://www.capetowndailyphoto.com/2007/10/bird-in-distress.html) about an Egyptian goose at our local dam that had gotten caught up in some discarded fishing line, and I think he would have lost his leg very soon if a few kind people didn't help catch him and cut the line off. We humans really are quite a menace sometimes, aren't we?
ReplyDeleteA great idea from a great and modern country
