Out of my bedroom window

To look out my double sash bedroom window, first you have to look past the reproduction mini Tiffany window (View of Oyster Bay) I bought in 1986 at the Metropolitan Museum of New York. It was made in about 1908 (the real one, not mine), and my house was built in 1909, so they fit together rather well. Now the Met has a shop in Sydney where you can buy them. I think it's a bit weird having a NY museum shop in Sydney, but there you are....globalisation! (PS The window is OPEN - it was just too filthy to photograph through!)

Here's a fragment of the tesselated tiles on the verandah and path.

  5. I like that reproduction, most of all the view and the colors. But I love the tiles. I remember playing on very similar tiles when I was a kid. It brings back a lot of memories.

  10. What a perfect compliment to your historic house!
I lived in Oyster Bay on Long Island, but it did not look as pretty as your Tiffany ;-)

  12. I have a piece from the Chicago museum (well, not the real thing) hanging at my window, too, and it also has a lot of blue in it. Your window is gorgeous, and so are the tiles.

  19. An interesting post. I like the photo and your explanation of it.

Wouldn't it be different if you woke up in my house and looked out the bedroom window? My site shows what you would see.

  20. You have a very nice 'bedroom view', I should say. I often wonder what is it like to live in such an old house? It must be a beautiful thing!

  21. nice view, and love the tiles! and yes, they do go well with the beautiful stained glass. the comment about the open window made me laugh! filthy windows--how very unswiss of you! (but then again, you are in Sydney, not Switzerland) It made me feel better about my own windows, which I'm sure are not up to Swiss cleanliness standards. I do clean them, I swear! just not as often as the Swiss, and they always end up streaky anyway...perhaps it's time to hire a putzfrau

  25. I'm so jealous! You seem to have a lovely house, it's sunny outside and like Alice said you even have a sea view.

Besides, Nathalie said you 're so very special and I trust her judgment!

  30. Oh beautiful! I don't know which I love the most, the Tiffany, the tiles or the beautiful leaning tree. Actually, of course, it's the combination which all says 'Sally.'

    Wonderful!

  35. Ah Sally, such a wonderful sight to wake to. Your window is inspiring (and your candor about the windows priceless). Speaking as a quiltmaker, I am especially fond of those lovely tile pavers. The patterns are wonderful. And Nathalie is right, you are a very special person, and I love your taste!
