Anchor and cannon

Anchor and cannon from the Sirius, Macquarie Place, Sydney.

The Sirius was one of the ships in the First Fleet. She was wrecked off Norfolk Island in 1790. The cannon was salvaged in 1791 and displayed in 1880. The anchor followed, being salvaged in 1905.

You can see the milestone obelisk shown yesterday in the background.

  1. on dirait un jouet (et pourtant non)

a toy would be said (and yet not)

  2. I've never seen this reminder of Australia's colonisation, even though I've been about 6 times now.

  3. Fascinating story and a beautiful reminder of Australia's early history and tragedies. Look at it now! Wouldn't those early sailors be just amazed?
