Last week I showed you the back of the screen at Bass Hill Drive-In . And as I promised our son we'd go to the drive-in, last night was the night. We saw the 3rd instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean. The first part was much too long, but the action got going in the second half. Intermission was a chance to stock up with more junk food at the snack bar....mmmmmm choc-top ice creams!
Some things don't change either...little kids still get taken to the drive-in dressed in their pyjamas, dressing gown and slippers. And some people park their station wagons backwards, open the back and lie down to watch the movie.

Such an interesting place.Wish we had them here in Malaysia.
ReplyDeleteDrive-ins are still numerous, or do they disappear?
ReplyDeletecalusarus - a very endangered species. Only 2 left in Sydney, and not many across the country. Killed off by video in the 1980s and multiplexes.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have any here & have never seen any, anywhere.
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic Sally! I thought Drive-ins were a thing of the past! Its great to see that you can check out Pirates of The Caribbean from the comfort of your own car!!! Simply fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI have never been to drive-ins before and now I feels like I'm in drive-ins by seeing your lovely photograph
ReplyDeleteYou believe or not what I ever envied to Americans when I was a kid and a teen agers, was drive-in. We never had them :-(
ReplyDeleteHa ha, Aussies are so good at getting their comfort right. Love the back of the ute turned to the screen and watching the movie in bed.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter saw pirates of the carribbean this weekend too. She liked it.
I always wanted to go for a drive-thru but never made it, while in Australia :-)
ReplyDeleteWell too late, as there's no drive thru in Singapore.
Once or twice a year, they do show movies under the stars. Some movie thingy by Nokia phones, went once, but had bum ache sitting for so long on the patchy grass. Should have brought more comfy blankets and stuff. :-)
So pleased that there are still a few drive-ins left, Sally. When i was a kid, we used to go to the TWIN drive-in...was it at Chullora? Cue...Twilight Zone theme...;), AND, yes, we'd wear our jarmies and dressing gown. There is a drive-in at Yatala, on the southern side of Brisbane, too.
ReplyDeleteDrive-ins still exist....amazing!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a drive-in movie. Sounds like a lot of fun. Any time families can spend time together is a good thing.
