Once upon a time in Avignon...

No, not Sydney. I haven't had the chance to go out and take photos yet. Since returning I have been sleeping, and washing and drying clothes and trying to keep warm and dry, because it's turned cold and rainy.

Everywhere we went in Europe people said "You've brought the sun with you!", because every single place we arrived in it had been raining and then cleared to warm sunshine as soon as we arrived (aahhhhhhhhhh, sweet). You can see the threatening sky in the second photo, but it bypassed us in favour of bright, warmth and sun.

I have no intention of posting all my travel photos on this site, which is after all Sydney Daily Photo! Never fear though...I will post a link to wherever they do end up :-) However in catching up with bloggy friends, I couldn't help post these. And there is a Sydney link.

I first met stupendous photographer Nathalie of Avignon In Photos when she was living in and blogging from Sydney. And when we arrived in her re-found home town, she took us into the fields to pick cherries - bags and bags of them. (Right before she took the photo of Ben and me and the cokes). We lived on cherries for days, and then Nathalie's friend Françoise gave us more!

The apricots were just starting to ripen. But, lo! what did I see when working my way back through Avignon In Photos? Nathalie's talent has been recognised, and she's turned wedding photographer! And I recognised those apricots!

  1. I have never tasted a cherry picked right from the tree. They look awesome. The apricots look great also.

  2. Sally, there is a certain warmth and fuzziness about these photographs.

You must have been free of thoughts and just acted on natural creative juices.

These are just fantastic images and none like them have I seen on your blog before.

I don't come every day so maybe I have missed something.

I think this top photo is one of the best photographs I have seen today. It is very encouraging and your photography is spot on.

I really admire your selection of what to photograph and your critical eye for composition, lighting and texture.

  3. Fantastic pictures. I look forward to seeing some more.
Me and my wife are currently planning our sixth holiday to Australia next year. I just Love your country. Hire car, couple of pies and an open deserted road cutting through the red land. Can not beat it.

  4. Welcome back. Sally. You must be feeling both wasted and exhilarated at the same time. I agree with Abraham that these two images have an inner warmth - and yes, it could just be that you were in "holiday mode". I am dying to see your images around Provence. Three of us are going there for a fortnight at the beginning of October.

The weather upon your return is not much to get excited about is it?

    Julie - errr, it's brrrrrrr-weather!

Caba - yep, I have quite a few ideas floating around in my had :-)

  11. Hi Sally, those cherries and peaches (?) look wonderful indeed. We don't have those here (although we do import them), so it's always nice to see them grow on trees (we only see them on supermarket shelves here).

  12. Hi Sally, thanks for the lovely post, there aren't that many pictures of me around - I'm usually behind the camera, not in front of it!!!

I knew these apricots would look fantastic against the dark stormy sky, I am not disappointed!

Welcome back home. I'm looking forward to more photos of the city I love... and hope to see you back here in Provence in the not too distant future.

  13. Cherries'season is so short, you've been lucky to be there just at the right time! Have you put cherries on your ears, like children do?
