Last swim for this summer?

I can't describe how beautiful today is - a tiny breeze, air temperature about 26 (no Adelaide like heatwave), not too humid, fresh-smelling, sea temperature about 22-24. Just a little "bracing" as you slowly immerse yourself, but as we say in our house BOYGI - "boy-gee" - Beautiful Once You get In.

This morning my son and I headed down to Oak Park at Cronulla for a swim. That's him with his towel around his neck - he's just washed off his thongs. That's a beginner's scuba diving class in the middle ground just outside the rock pool, and Bundeena and the Royal National Park across Port Hacking in the background.

Temperatures are predicted to fall for Easter, though sea swimming is usually pretty good in Sydney up until mid-April.

  1. Do you imagine how cruel you are, Sally? Here, we have to wait several months before having just a toe in the sea!

  2. Sally you are so lucky, living in such a fantastic city and having a climate like this. Wish I was there! :-(

  3. Fingers crossed that you still can get a few more swims in. We can usually swim into at least May here, and there are always the hardy types who swim all year round.

Easter up here usually means rain!

  4. Oooohhh....what I would give to have a day at the beach. It's been cold and wet here in NYC.

  5. Looks as heavenly as you describe it.

  6. That looks like fun, not quite warm enough for a swim here.

  7. Mmmmmm! I love the "boyge" acronym. How clever! I think I'll adopt it!

It might be cooler than 22-24° in the calanques mid-june but it'll be worth a try!

  8. Well, I be damned! (Come to think of it . . I probably am.) I just stumbled upon your blog a few days ago and liked your photos of Sydney. They reminded me that I used to live there for a while. It was a very happy time in my life. Then, today before work I was having a squizz at the photo for today - and it was from Cronulla! I can't express how much I used to enjoy walking down the Promenade, past Oak Park, and around to Salmon Haul and then back around to North Cronulla. Every day. It was magic! Memories, memories. Thanks! Now I'm freezing my ass off in Canada. :-)

  9. I used to go to Bundeena beach all the time when I lived in Sydney, Sally - Cronulla too but my favourite was Bundeena. I've promised to take M.B there one day when we go to visit William.

  11. Hi Sally, I used to live in Engadine and Oak Park was a favourite haunt in summer. Your photos (and on your Swimming blog) bring back lots of happy memories. Cheers...
