Green Boy, Newtown

Can you spot him amidst this outdoor gallery on the corner of Lennox and Mary Sts, Newtown? Newtown has a lot of street art and stencil graffiti - and even an entry in Wikipedia all about it. I've shown quite a few of these on my blog before, and a few yet to come. In Enmore Road, just nearby, there's even a rumour that the world's most famous graffiti artist, Banksy, left his mark. See here.

Today is Theme Day amongst City Daily Photo Bloggers. Have alook at graffiti and street murals in the following cities, being mindful of different time zones:

  1. Is Banksi an offspring of Kilroy?[of Kilroy was here fame not the disgraced ex-politician K Silk]

  2. Good choice. I like very much the details of the second one.

  3. For some reason TORUŃ DAILY PHOTO was not included in your list...despite having signed up for theme day last month. Please ammend! Many thanks!

  4. Hi Sally, I found the green boy in the larger mural. Good choice!! How are ya feeling?

  5. Yes, I can! He's quite noticeable.

BTW, the bottom photo doesn't link to a larger size, but to Banksy's page. Did you intended it that way?

Have a nice Theme Day, Sally. :)

  6. Thanks fenix - it should be fixed now.

  7. Great area for graffiti. I like the green boy. From your first picture I wouldn't have guessed that it is just part of a whole wall of street art.

  8. Hi, Sally, if you're ever in Osseo or Pigeon Falls again, please look me up!

  9. Sally, I agree with you. The stenciled murals are much prettier than the graffiti ones.

  10. That's a nice example of the range of uninvited art to be found on walls

  11. Amazing street art...love the green boy....some very clever people around doing it, thumbing their noses at the regulated art world...good on 'em I say.

  12. Sydney has some great street art. Love your choices, especially the green boy.

  13. Wonderful mural and great choice, Sally!! I also love the kanguru on the left mural!!!

  14. Boy, I like your green boy! Good choice and beautifully illustrated!

    Cheers Sally!

  15. You certainly had plenty to pick from here; good choice.

  16. The big green boy is very noticable. However, what I like most is the red spot where the paint has peeled off.

  17. Beautifully composed, Sally: the boy fills the frame in a very powerful way!

Avignon is not in the list (still having trouble registering with CDP) but nevertheless participating in the theme day. I hope you come and visit.

  18. That's great, Sally. the green boy looks almost like art, but when you see the whole graffiti-'landscape' ... this looks ugly. But the boy for himself ... wonderful with its peeling paint.

  19. the first photograph is superb

  20. I love your choice this little green boy is superb, the red spot is perfect on the picture.
I learned something with this ,the difference between stenciled and graffiti murals..

  21. I like the way virtually none of the graffiti goes above that horizontal line. Is that the point above which the artists could no longer reach, or was this a semi-formally organized art event, I wonder?

    Great shot!

  22. So much to look at, they all look wonderful.

  23. That's a fascinating piece of art.

  25. great post! the artist(s) are very talented indeed!

  26. Green Boy definitely qualifies as street art (as opposed to graffiti)!

  27. I like the bouncing roo in the foreground wall section! Graffiti so reminds me of ancient cave painting.

  28. You have some wonderful images for theme day! I especially love Green Boy; I wish that someone would restore that one. Lovely!

  29. It would be very interesting a place like this in Setúbal. I liked.

  30. I found your post interesting because of those contrast in the work seeing in foreground and it's back.
One if foreground looks like a commissioned project and the back is random collaboration of many people in time to time.

  31. Not sure if green was the best colour to use. He looks a very sick little boy.

  32. Great photos - but I must agree with Gail's man there, he looks a bit worse for wear! (or green round the gills I suppose you could say).

    Thanks for visiting Glasgow DP!

  33. Sally, thank you about your visit. No, since this month it isn't possible to sign up through the CDBP portal the last day how I was used to. I don't like to register too in advance because, as I said in the forum, I am not always sure to have perinent photo to insert then I could forget it.

It was ok for me to sign up the last day and never mind if my site didn't appear in each other blog. It isn't a game -in my opinion- but a joy. They changed rules (without to ask any opinion btw)? Ok I won't partecipate anymore.

Ah, I like the green boy !!!

  34. Hi Sally. The green boy is quite striking. I like the mixture of graffiti on the wall.

  35. Great choice to showcase for theme day!

    ReplyDelete
  36. quite surprising! I also wouldn't have guessed that it is part of a whole wall of street art, wow cool...

  37. the more i look at it, i can sense that the boy is very sad ;-(

    what's the salt child?

    Happy Theme Day!

  40. Sally, I so enjoy visting your blog, you always have great photos and thought provoking commentary!

I like Green Boy. I think Green Boy and Yellow Girl and Blue Boy here in Athens need to get together!! :)

    Great post!

  42. Nice shot. I often find stencil graffiti a bit creepy. Maybe it's the ghostly quality.
