embracing the plateau (Sculpture By The Sea 2009)

Work by Daniel Clemmett.

Made of recycled steel, car bonnet undercarriages.

Artist's statement: "Offering a wry comment on ancient ideals in juxtaposition with the state of contemporary man, a major health problem in the developed world."

More about the artists here.

Here is his entry in last year's SxS.

That's a bit different.

Didn't realise there were so many sculptures on display.

Talk about undercarriages!

Don't quite follow this image and the sculptor's ideas. I can see the "ancient ideal" in the plump female form, but I would have thought it is the developed world that has a problem with obesity, not the undeveloped world.

Sydney's sophisticated Sally sometimes sees strange steel sculptures!

Very powerful image and statement. Not something I'd like to keep near me though. ;)
