Is the pitch area itself grassed Sally? We used to play Friday sport down here, but way back then, girls played softball and netball.Boys played cricket and soccer.I LOVED cricket, but had to wait till I got to high school before being able to play cricket at school.Thank goodness things have changed at MOST primary schools and everyone gets a chance at everything sport-wise.
caba: I'm pretty sure the actual wicket is synthetic. Turf wickets are quite rare - I think the nearest one is Hurstville Oval, home of St George CC.
nick: yep, lots of rain this summer - it's a La Nina event. We need it. The cricket pitch was redone over the school holiday period when matches are suspended. Arncliffe Park is a junior cricket venue. I think they resume play there this weekend....though last week was washed out.
A game I never understood, cricket. Nice photo of the turf.

ReplyDeleteRain? Still? What's happening to summer there? And why are they re-turfing a cricket pitch in summer? Is cricket a winter game in Sydney?
