Gang-Gang Cockatoo


I met this fellow (and his rather drab wife, who wouldn't let me photograph her) on my morning walk. Natives of southeast Australia, they are usually found in more elevated areas, not so often on the coast.

  1. There have been several sitings of wildlife rarely seen in coastal areas lately. Probably due to a combination of the drought and bushfires. Certianly makes it interesting for those of us who live east of the ranges.

  3. Yes, I think you are right jd. They do come towards the coast in winter, but I think their normal habitat is VERY stressed.

  4. Hey, this is a GREAT capture. Speaking of the female, why is it that in the animal kingdom, the male always seems to have the brilliant plumage and gorgeous outfits??
