SDP on tour ....perspective in Paris
This sign to the "Grand Magasins" (Department Stores) in Place de l'Opéra in Paris appears, from this perspective, to be pointing towards the Palais Garnier, aka the Opéra de Paris or Opéra Garnier, or Paris Opéra. It was the primary home of the Paris Opera from 1875 until 1989. It was designed by Charles Garnier, who won a competition in 1861.

I know where I'd rather be. An Opera would be a once in a life time treat for me
ReplyDeleteIf you are on Boulevard Hausmann, you should check out the Jacquemart-Andre Museum. It is in a mansion designed by the architect who lost the competition to Garnier to do the Paris Opera House, and it was his next job right after losing that competition. He went all out to prove that he was worthy. He succeeded.
ReplyDeleteFantastic info, Dave. Thanks
