Up until the 1950s and 1960s, when people didn't know exactly what was going to happen but they launched into the activity anyhow, they always announced "OK, it is Sydney or the Bush!!"
I don't hear the expression these days, but I wonder where it came from.
During our summer, the greenery becomes so commonplace, but now during -15 degree weather, I long for a scene such as this!!

It is the two extremes of anything and started by acknowledging Sydney to be urbane and sophisticated, whereas the bush was hicksville.
