Rainbow lorikeets
These beautiful rainbow lorikeets were frolicking in trees in Pitt St, Redfern in inner Sydney as I walked past. The reason for the large number was soon obvious - a nearby bird feeder. Thre is some controversy about whether it is wise to feed birds; if the benefactor moves on, the birds may struggle to find their own feed. However, these are native birds, an asset to the inner urban environment, and have benefitted in population numbers from feeding.

Wow! How amazing to have such colorful birds flying around. We'd only see those in a zoo or pet shop around here. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteWell I just learned something. I thought these lorikeets were only wild in Queensland. They are so beautiful. I remember them well.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful birds although they can be noisy. We have them frequently in our grevileia trees,
ReplyDeleteYes they are lovely. Jilly - they are native to many parts, all along the east coast for example!
