Guest house Government House
To provide extra accommodation, this attractive arts and crafts style house was built in the grounds of Government House prior to the arrival of the Earl of Jersey as Governor in 1891. (He looked like part of the chinless contingent of British aristocracy).
I wonder what it's used for today?

ReplyDeleteToday it is sometimes used as acommodation for special guests and Artists In Residence, as well as an extra meeting place for visiting school groups and special tours.
ReplyDeleteThere has been some talk of referbishing the inside of the Chalet for future public use. It is not included in the regular public tours on the weekends.
P.s. love your blog!!
Magnificent looking house. I didn't know it was there.

It used to be part of the offices of the Governor's staff when they lived in Government House. I remember taking papers over there on occasions. Would love to get inside there one day. Think it was open as part of Sydney Open last year but I didn't get down that far.
ReplyDeleteIt still looks well taken care of so it's definitely used for something. Very handsome house!
